First on this list is bookkeeping, a skill that many think only math enthusiasts can do.
Bookkeeping is for everyone with a general interest in accounting and office admin.
The core responsibilities of a bookkeeper are to collect, prepare, and update information related to the financial activities of a business.
These may include:
- Tracking of expenditures
- Handling payrolls
- Creating financial reports
- Paying bills
- Collecting invoice payments
- And so many more
Bookkeepers are NOT accountants.
The former prepares financial data. The latter interpret it.
Before the accountant can use financial data to make reports and determine what a business should do next, it’s the bookkeeper who ensures that these data are correct and up to date.
Therefore, bookkeeping is a great start for people who aspire to become accountants.
Beginner bookkeepers can earn about $20 to $30 per hour.
And with additional education, training, and experience, this can increase to as much as $100 per hour.
